November 17, 2014

Well we had a good week, except for the fact that Sis. Orton and I were sick...haha. Oh man, it's the first time I've been sick on my mission...it hasn't been fun :/ But I guess the Lord was telling us that we just needed to take it easy and so we did this weekend. But nothing else really happened. The only exciting things that happened were that we went back to see 2 potentials with return appointments (in the same day) and both of them had just set the Book of Mormon out on the front step, just sitting there waiting for us. And we were like....what?? No! and so we knock on the door. No answer. So we write them notes saying,  yeah we're not taking this back. We gave it to you. So read it and pray about it. Have a nice day. hahaha. Oh goodness. And then in the same day, we almost got attacked by a huuuuge pit bull!!! We were seeing another potential and the dog like slams into the door and almost breaks the glass, stares into our souls and then goes mad! and we were running for our lives. and it was soo scary. I've never been so scared of dog before...hahaha oh man! It was an adventure!
I got proposed to this week by a homeless man. It's nothing new. They always are hitting on us...but this was even more weird. Fred asked me when my mission was over, and I said in Feb. and he said, so when is our romance going to start? You need to marry a rich, smart, republican! and I said, well that ain't you! sorry! and he said sure I am! come on! you can marry me! hahahaha oh goodness. You gotta love people :)
I read a talk that changed my life this week. It is called Becoming Perfect in Christ by Elder Gerrit W. Gong. Sis. Orton showed it to me after I had been complaining about that we weren't doing enough or we needed to be doing more. After reading this talk, I realized that what I am doing right now is enough and that I am enough as myself, Sister Burr and I have a wonderful power about myself and what we are doing right now is enough. Perfection is not achievable in this life. We can't keep worrying about being perfect. Something I have been struggling with, and I didn't even know it. Sis. Orton has helped me out so much and helped me change into the person I need to be and helping me realize that I need to change my thinking about myself, and not putting myself down. It's been a struggle but a blessing at the same time! Blessings in disguise :) Being myself is the best thing I can do! and so I'm working on that :)
I love my mission and my companion! Even though we were sick, we had a good week :) Andrew is still good for Nov. 29! and we're excited for him! and Amanda is set for baptism on Dec. 20! so we're doing great things over here and I'm loving it :)

I love you and miss you so much! tell everyone I said Hi and i miss them and love them!
Love always,
Sister Burr

Paul Lanctot made this wonderful dinner for us! he's the best :)

11/10/14

What a week! It was one of the best weeks I've had on my mission :)

I'll just tell some of the highlights! I gave blood this week :) It was soo fun!!! I love giving blood!! hahaha. Pretty great stuff! We had zone meeting this week and it was a powerful meeting. President Griffin got up and asked if anyone had any last questions because he had to get to another meeting. One missionary got up and asked, "How can I better see people through Christ's eyes?" and we all talked about it as missionaries and then President gets up and refers to Moroni 7:44-47. He talked about charity and how we must love them. It says in verse 44 that if he bear witness of Jesus Christ, it must needs be that he have charity. Then he said, "You know I have noticed one thing about your generation and it's not good. Your generation seems to beat themselves up more than any other generation.  You don't love yourselves. If you want to love other people, you have to look in the mirror and love that person more than anyone else. If you want to love other people, you must first have to love yourself. Love is the answer! And if you want to see people as Christ does, you must know who Christ is. So get to know him. It was a great meeting!

Then I had the opportunity to go on exchanges with my old companion, Sis. Crapo!!!! We had WAAY too much fun :) It was the best! We were able to find 4 new people to teach and have another baptismal date with Amanda Clay! She is so sweet and awesome!

This week hasn't been amazing just because the success we've been able to see, but the real success has been me getting over some trials and seeing myself grow and become a better, more Christ-like person! I've seen how much the Lord really loves me! He loves all of us so much!

I have the best companion in the world! Sister Orton. We are honestly the same person! She is so kind, hilarious, loving, an AMAZING teacher and missionary! I just love her sooo much!! We are like instant best friends! She's amazing!

I honestly just love my life right now! I am so blessed and the Lord has blessed us so much! He truly cares about us individually!

I also had to give a talk in sacrament meeting! On Rescue In Unity from General Conference! and it was a great talk actually! I was nervous as heck! But man we had an amazing week!

I miss you and love you so much!!!!!!! I can't wait until I come home :) I miss you so much!
I hope everything was great this week!
You're the best mom in the entire world!
I love you so much!
Love always,
Sister Burr

Read the Book of Mormon y'all :)

11/3/14

Well it snowed this weekend and it is freezing!!! But I’m doing great :)
My Halloween  was good...except we had to be in at 4pm!!! crazy! So, we just hung out at the church with other missionaries! It was fun :) haha.

It snowed! It was soo cold on Saturday! We found a dead possum on the side of the road and took a picture with it...no big deal. haha. We had such a bad day that we just ended up getting cookie dough at the store...haha.

But all is well :) Things are going great over here! We have baptismal date with our investigator Andrew for Nov. 29! So that should be great! This is the 3rd time with him! But it should be good. He seems more committed. We laid down the law with him! We're like okay… if you're serious about this, we'll help you, but you have to be committed!

We went tracting a lot this past week....haha it's interesting. Not the most enjoyable thing...but hey! I’m awkward anyways. And so the best story was this: it was my first time tracting in a looong time and same with Sis. Orton. We go to the door and she opens the door and I say, "Hey!........what's up?" and that is all I say....and she's like.....”We're Lutheran”. and we're like okay bye!....and she slams the door. hahahaha We couldn't help but die laughing...because I’m just too awkward for words :) haha. Good times.

But we found lots of awesome people but they end up dropping us at the end of the week...another reason why we went and got cookie dough :) No big deal.

All and all it was a great week! Paul L. came to church yesterday :) and Rick, Bobby, Sis. Stanton, and Debbie are all doing great :) Those are all the recent converts since July and they are doing wonderfully :) I love them all so much! they are so dear to me!

I've learned the wonderful principle of being diligent...haha oh man. when we do what the Lord tells us...He blesses us. He provides a way for us to do it!  I’ve seen Him help me through this week and strengthen me. The best tool we have is prayer...and let me tell you. I’ve never prayed so much in my life than I have in the past 3 months. Satan really knows how to get us...but the Lord is stronger. He is our strength. Prayer is the most powerful thing we have in this world. Our personal interview with our Heavenly Father. He loves us, so much! I am so grateful for that.

I miss you and love you so much!
Love always,
Sister Burr
This is Rick. He's so funny. This is a fish he caught many years ago haha.

October 27, 2017

Well this week was just amazing!
We had transfers this week and I was really sad to see Sis. Merrell go! :( I miss her so much. She's so great and she is in Chattanooga now and she is loving it!

I got Sis. Orton! She is so awesome! She is actually from the Colorado Springs Mission! She got transferred here to our mission because we were short on sisters and she was willing to move to a different mission! It's very rare for that to happen! But she's here and I love her! We are honestly like the same person. It's crazy. We like EVERYTHING the same! She's so great :) and we had a great week this week!

We had a ward Halloween party and we had Paul Lanctot and his wife Terry come and he hasn't been to church over 30 years! And he is coming back strong! And I just love him :) We're teaching his wife Terry! She's so great :) I love both of them! They came to the party and he came to church yesterday :) and it was amazing to see him there and see his progress and his love for the gospel!

I know the Lord is expecting much of me at this time, trying to find people and helping those to progress toward baptism and I know that I need to step up to the plate and work diligently until the end! because I only have so much time left! The Lord is definitely aware of us in our challenges! He loves us, and that is an honest blessing.
I love this work and it's very hard, but it's so worth it.

Love always,
Sister Burr

Oct 20, 2014

Well, this week was great! Debbie got baptized!!!! I just love her. She has had to make many changes in her life!!
We are SO proud of her :) I love her!

Sister Merrell is getting transferred and I'm so super sad :( I'm going to miss her so much. She's so awesome. I have enjoyed every second being with her. She's such a great example to me and has taught me soooooooooo much!! don't know what I would do without her! She's amazing!

I'm excited for this new transfer ahead of me! it's gonna be fun! But yeah I'm staying in Bristol. I'll probably stay for 1 more transfer and then go somewhere for my last 2 transfers....that is really scary to say!!! haha. oh my goodness.. time is just going by so fast!!

But nothing else has really happened!! Just a little bit of everything!

So we go to the RonQuillos every Sunday for dinner and they are my favorite family here. They remind me of my own family so I just love being there! They are the best :) But i just am loving life right now!

I miss you and love you so much!! I hope you had a great week.

Love always,
Sister Burr

October 6 and 14, 2014

Oct 14

It’s going by so fast! I’ve been out 14 months today! 14 on 14! Crazy...I can't even believe it....ahhhh.

It's beginning to be Fall for sure! I love it sooooooooo much!! It’s my favorite time of year!! And the trees are SOOO pretty here! I can't get over it!!! It’s unreal!! :)
My week was good! We just went biking on the creeper trail yesterday and it was definitely an adventure :) haha. My tire popped and then I tried to yell out to the other missionaries but they didn't hear me...I didn't know what to do, but then seconds later, this guys says “Hey sister! Do you need some help?” And it was a member from the Knoxville Stake and there were tons of Mormons to help me out :) hahaha. It was a blessing for sure! And then my tire popped twice so Sis. Weight took it and was riding on the rim...and it was a long, frustrating day BUT it was fun and we laugh about it now that we look back on it :) haha.
Debbie is getting baptized this next week!! And we're soo excited for her!! She’s a trooper and wants to get baptized! So we are soo excited :)
Other than that, we have just been finding more people to teach!

I hope you guys have a wonderful week! I miss you and love you soooooo much!!

Love always,
Sister Burr

Oct 6
Well….It’s been a great week! We were able to see Debbie, who has a baptismal date for Oct. 18 and she is doing great :) We're excited for her!
We were able to find more people to teach this week! But always striving for even more :) We are going to increase our finding efforts this week! It will be a good goal and I feel great about it!
Sister Merrell and I are doing great! I just love her. I'm grateful to be with her! She has taught me so much and is such a wonderful example to me!
General Conference was an amazing time for me to know what I need to do. I received so much personal revelation and feel invincible :) It all comes down to faith, which I need more of! So I am going to exercise my faith!
I loved Elder Christofferson's talk! and when he said "freedom doesn't come from resisting, but applying the commandments"
I loved Elder Uchtdorf's talk!! SO GOOD!. Probably my 3rd favorite talk. When he talked about light and how we need to do the will of the Lord and that it takes TIME! It’s a gradual process and that it doesn't matter about the depth or the height of our testimony and this church is for imperfect people and it's a quest of a lifetime.
My 2nd favorite talk was Jorg Kebingat from the 70. He talked about spiritual confidence. I needed to hear that soo bad. It was an answer to a prayer. I definitely need more confidence in my life! And so it was a wonderful talk, how we just need to DO IT. Just do it. Nike! I loved it so much. How we need to take responsibility, embrace obedience, be really good at repenting and forgiving and most of all accept our trials! We need to acknowledge our weaknesses but not let them enable us! I loved that.
Oh, then Elder Holland was a POWERHOUSE! He always is :) haha. Love, love, loved it!
I loved Sister McConkie's talk! It was really good! And President Eyring is just a favorite for me :) He's probably my favorite apostle.
President Thomas S. Monson’s was my favorite talk. I loved how he said decisions determine destiny. I loved that! It's soo true! His entire talk was amazing. Definitely what I needed to hear. We need to walk AS Jesus walked, not where he walked. And how he is there for us FOREVER AND ALWAYS! We can find happiness, it won't be easy, but it will be completely worth it!
I loved Elder Scott's talk and Carlos A. Godoy's talk! So good! This conference was just the best :) I loved it so much!
And of course, Elder Bednar blew it out of the water. :) My favorite part was when he said, “it may be awkward!” because he just justified my entire life :) So moral of the story: it's okay to be awkward. Thank you Elder Bednar!
Conference is amazing. I had such a great week! I love Conference SO much! It was the best :)

I just love and miss you so much! I can't believe I only have like 5 months left...it's so insane to me! I can't even believe it...
I love you and miss you so much!!
Love always,
Sister Burr
